Ativ. 4 - Plural of Nouns

  1. The general rule for plural formation is an add - S to the singular
 example: book - books; girl - girls; day - days; table - tables

  2. Nouns ending in - o, ch, sh, ss, x, z form the plural by adding the suffix - es
example: hero - heroes; tomato - tomatoes; brush - brushes; wish - wishes

 3. Foreign words or abberviated forms of it are in the plural - S
example: cello - cellos; kilo - kilos; photo - photos; solo - solos

  4. Nouns ending in - y preceded by a consonant, lose - get - ies
example: family - families; lady - ladies; country - countries

 5. The fallowing nouns ending in - f or - fe lose these letters and get - ves
example: half - halves; life - lives; loaf - loaves; shelf - shelves

 6. All other nouns ending in - f or - fe make the plural in - S
example: chief - chiefs; roof - roofs; strife - strifes

  7. Some nouns undergo changes of various kinds
example: child - children; woman - women; tooth - teeth; goose - geese

Ativ. 3 - Thanksgiving day

   The day of Thanksgiving is celebrated in the United States in the fourth thursday of the month of November and its celebration in perhaps more significant than christmas.
    According to tradition, the day the first American Thanksgiving took place in 1621, between the English settlers (pilgrims) who had founded the Plymouth Colony, Massachusetts. The party was held at the members of the Wampanoag, the settlers invited.
    This, however, did not happen regularly, they made these celebrations in times of crisis or after a bad period has passed. These celebrations were serious and religious occasions little resemblace the current parties.
     Currently, the festival is a celebration of home, family - centered and at home. Public demonstrations have shows and parades.

Ativ. 2 - Halloween Origins

   Peolpe say that Halloween has its origins in the Catholic church because of the saints, wich is a reference to dead saints to be celebrated on November 1.
   On this date was celebrated a holiday called ''Samhaim'', All witches, demons and spirits came from the dead gathered for a big party.
   Over time, the fear that caused the perty was being forgotten and it became a game for children, and today the kids were out on the streets knocking on doors and say ''tricks or treats''.

Ativ. 1 - Panamerican games and Mascots

   We all know that the mascots of the Pan American Games are presents from the Pan de San Juan in 1979 as the frog qho was honored as a type common in Puerto Rico.
   The lion was the mascot of the Pan American Games in Caracas-1983, symbolizing unity and atrength of all countries.
    In 1991 it had Tocororo is a nacinal bird of Cuba, in Havana and mascot name Tocopan was a mixture of his name with the name of the event.
   Already the sea lion was chosen to represent the city of Mar del Plata in 1995.
   Games in winnipeg in 1999 and they had two pets a Duck (chosen from the audience) and a parrot (Lorita Panamericana).
   And among other more...
   In giadalajara the mascots were giavo, Hichi and Lion.
